ARTIST STATEMENT

Furniture, necessary yet often neglected possessions. If the household is the stage for the unfolding of our lives then the furnishings inside can serve the greater landscape which we dwell in. During our formative, adult, and elderly years we use these goods daily, and through shared experiences we develop sentiment toward them. With these associations comes a feeling, as just the sight of a piece can take us a back to a moment in time. Whether it be a story from our childhood or a time with a loved one, these goods hold far more than just their innate function. Though I cannot instill my pieces with others sentiment or stories, I aim to channel those same emotions in each of my works. Through my design and choice of materials I hope my furniture can foster feelings of familiarity and comfort.

project statement

The nightstand, or end-table if you will. It serves as both a place to pick up life, as well as a space to put it down. In a culture that glorifies busyness we often neglect spaces such as these. Though our days can take us all over, we almost always start and end in the same place. These spaces have the potential to offer our spirits rest should we choose to embrace them. Through these pieces I hope to encourage a spirit of slowing down and engaging in a rest that extends beyond just sleep.
