Project Statement
Alienated will be presented as a series of 8 black and white film photographs. They will be taken with a Holga, and a point and shoot camera to portray imperfections and represent the unpredictability that one faces in their mental health struggles. The images will be presented in frames at an 18×24 inch scale and contain one diptych.
Artist Statement
Alienated investigates the fragility and instability of the mind. Documented through black and white photography, this series conveys anxiety and depression by capturing raw moments of feeling through performative portraiture and landscapes. Through the use of portraiture and environments cast in dark shadows and harsh contrast, the images evoke feelings of abandonment and moments of vulnerability many can possess. At its core, Alienated reflects the harsh, but true feelings of loneliness and depression.
