Bridget Van Velsor is a multidisciplinary artist who mainly specializes in digital art. Growing up as an introvert, Bridget found community online and with a small group of other artists who all took artistic inspiration from the media and fandoms they interacted with and were parts of. Beyond that, Bridget also enjoys making original characters and occasionally stories for those characters. Art is a form of communication for Bridget, connecting with others who share similar interests and ideas, whether online or in person.
Project Statement
Spiritux is the result of an on-and-off worldbuilding project that began in 2018, combining fantastical and more scientific elements throughout. Working digitally with the programs and methodologies I use for all my work beyond my classes, I created three landscapes illustrating some of the inhabitants of this world and the places they inhabit, with a fourth piece overviewing some personality and dynamic aspects of these three characters.
Artist Statement
Having grown up surrounded by the Internet and fandom culture on sites like Instagram and Tumblr, my interests have greatly shaped my artistic path. Whether this be music I listen to, shows I watch, games I play, or places I visit, all these have defined different aspects of what I create. Creation in itself serves as a method of communication, becoming a core facet of why I make art for as long as I can remember. I create and share to show people what I like, what inspires me, and to find other people who do the same and find community with them, both through original and fan-centric content.
